DAY 02
DEPARTURE 08:00 AM EXCURSION TO COLORADAS AND RÍO LAGARTOS WITH CROCODILE SIGHTSEEING AT NIGHT IN RÍO LAGARTOS
Río Lagartos is a beautiful fishing port where you can find an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, but it also offers adventure and fun as it houses the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, which preserves the flora and fauna of the area. One of the attractions of Río Lagartos is the flamingos that come to feed and nest in the Biosphere, offering a beautiful spectacle when they arrive in large flocks, painting the sky pink.
After the flamingo sighting, you will be directed to the "Mayan Bath" where you will enjoy refreshing yourself in a mud of pink or golden waters, this due to its high concentrations of sulfur, minerals, salts, and algae which act as exfoliants for the skin, leaving a sensation of softness all over our body. Thanks to its high salt content, you will float easily in this mud, and its accumulation creates a white foam that will completely envelop you. At the end of the excursion, we will transfer to the Perico Marinero restaurant for lunch (on your own), and at night, we will have a crocodile sighting tour by boat. Overnight stay in Río Lagartos at the Villa de Pescadores hotel.
DAY 03
09:00 AM DEPARTURE FROM RÍO LAGARTOS TO EK BALAM WITH A VIEW OF THE XCANCHE CENOTE AND SITE VISIT.
Ek’ Balam (Star Jaguar) is a Mayan city that reached its peak during the Late/Terminal Classic period (600-850/900 AD) and possibly served as the capital of the "Tlalol" kingdom. The first known king of Ek’ Balam is Ukit Kan Le't Tok (the father of the four flint fronts), who was the builder of most of the sumptuous palace known today as the Acropolis and many other works. He was also a promoter of technical and cultural advances, as well as architectural and decorative wealth, best exemplified by Structure 35 Sub, located inside the Acropolis and known as Sak Xok Nah (white house of reading), which served as a tomb for Ukit Kan Le't Tok, who was buried with a rich offering consisting of more than 7,000 pieces such as ceramic vessels, shell objects, snail shells, and tumbaga.
The Xcanché cenote is located 1.5 km from the Ek Balam Archaeological Zone, and it can be reached by walking and/or mountain biking.
This site is operated by a Mayan indigenous cooperative and offers various services such as ecotourism walks to admire the region's nature, camping area, zip-lining, rappelling, eco-friendly bathrooms, a rest area with hammocks, and a restaurant serving regional Yucatecan cuisine. Overnight stay in Valladolid at the Ecoquinta Regia Hotel.
DAY 04
08:30 AM DEPARTURE FROM VALLADOLID TO CHICHÉN AND CONTINUATION TO THE BALANCANCHE CAVES.
CONTINUATION TO CHICHÉN ITZÁ
Dating back approximately 1553 years, these famous Mayan pyramids are located about an hour and a half away. The name Chichén Itzá derives from the Mayan words "chi" meaning mouth, "chen" meaning well, and "Itzá" the name of the people from this region. The site is divided into three areas: the northern group (clearly Toltec), the central group (from the early period), and the one known as the old Chichén. Among these, only the first two groups are visited. Lunch buffet included at Chichén.
BALANCANCHE CAVES
It is a Mayan word meaning "Throne of the Jaguar." For the ancient Maya, it was a site of great importance, with sacred significance as it represented the entrance to the underworld, where various deities resided.
The entrance passage descends abruptly to a depth of 10 meters. The explored parts of the cave comprise over a kilometer of pathways.
Throughout this corridor, the passages are occasionally interrupted by large chambers about 10 meters high and 25 meters wide, where stalactites and stalagmites merge to form columns. In this cave, a light and sound show is conducted during the tour to narrate its history.
The Balankanché Tourist Center features a museum with photographs and explanatory captions about the sacred rituals practiced within.
IN THE AFTERNOON WALKING CITY TOUR IN VALLADOLID
In the State of Yucatán, you'll find Valladolid, a "Pueblo Mágico" since 2012, and currently considered among the possible UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The Heroic city of Valladolid was founded in 1543 by Francisco de Montejo and is currently the second most important city in Yucatán after Mérida. But in terms of tourism, it's one of the most significant geographical points due to its proximity to archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá and Ek Balam, as well as having its own tourist attractions.
Overnight stay in Valladolid at ECOHOTEL QUINTA REGIA..
